A product of Vivus Inc that was initially christened as Qnexa and later on was changed to Qsymia, this weight loss supplement is a combination of an agent that suppresses appetite and one that helps to control migraines and seizures.

Because both components that make up Qsymia are strong in nature and trigger the release of chemicals in the brain, the user is bound to feel less hungry and thus stays away from food. In this way, Qsymia claims to combat obesity and is projected as being one of the most effective weight loss supplements in the new millennium. Dosage of this medication is decided after taking the BMI of the person into account and while most users settle for a standard dose, higher doses may be employed in exceptional cases.

Like all weight loss supplements, everything about Qsymia seems pleasant at a glance but unfortunately there is more to this product than what meets the eye, namely a plethora of side effects which users have to contend with. Some of these are common and can be tolerated during the initial phase but there are others of a more severe nature that could demand immediate medical attention. Therefore, it is imperative for users of Qsymia to be familiar with the after effects so that they can seek expert advice and help on time.

Given that Qsymia is a combination of two strong drugs, it is inevitable that its side effects will be a result of both. Most users report of back pain after having started on Qsymia accompanied by decreasing sensation in taste-buds and incessant sneezing. Other common problems are manifested in form of congestion in ears, sensation of pain around the eyes and hinderance in bowel movements. Cases have also been reported for lapses in memory, temporary collapse of vocal chords and bouts of insomnia.

In rare cases, the side effects may assume a more severe form and this may be manifested in form of abnormally high blood pressure and irregular rhythm of heartbeats. Allergy has also been reported wherein hives and rashes appeared without any explanation and the skin was also observed as being inflamed at several spots all over the body without any apparent reason. Decreased count of white blood cells causes lowering of immunity and this in turn renders the person more susceptible to all kinds of contagions, thus increasing possibility of illness.

Chemical changes brought about in the brain might trigger depression and suicidal thoughts cannot be ruled out. The person as such appears to be confused at all times, is unable to think or speak clearly and suffer from an unsteady feeling that he could pass out any time. All of this leads to an overall feeling of weakness in the body and the person is tired and fatigued throughout the day. Pregnancy is a condition when this medication should be completely avoided because it has been known to cause birth defects.

Courtesy of all these reasons, Qsymia had not received approval from FDA and clinical trials were conducted to verify its claims of weight loss. Although the supplement was subsequently released, it is still under the scanner for its side effects and is sold in limited quantities at select stores only. Hence, it could be treated as an option to speed up the process of weight loss but ultimately should be discontinued and replaced with a healthy lifestyle. Qsymia is definitely not recommended for long-term use and should be resorted to for a short period of time only when there is no other option.
